Kentucky's 2011 Womens Fast Pitch State Championship--June 9-11

Saturday was a great day for softball in Owensboro, KY at Jack Fisher Complex. The early forecasted storms held off making all games on time and the morning air cool and pleasant. Calloway County started their day off beating PRP and advancing to the semi-finals where they met Ballard after a loss to Allen County- Scottsville.

Ballard's Bailey Walker lead the 1st inning off by taking a walk. A bunt by Jordan Wise moved Walker to second but Wise became the first out in the transaction. Madison Wise swings at strike 3 for the 2nd out. Hanna Gray lands a hit to become the 2nd runner on base. Allison Wiseman follows up with hard hit ball to the outfield scoring Wise and Gray but got caught with her hand in the cookie jar when she tried to take 2nd as the throw home was cut off by the pitcher and relayed to 2nd. The first inning was very uneventful for the Calloway County Lakers as 2 consecutive batters flew out left field to end the inning 4 up--3 down.

In the second inning Ballard started right where they left off getting a hit out of Katie Kelly. Meghan McCreery hit into a fielders choice getting Kelly out at second and landing safe on 1st. Jessica Adell followed with a nice hit getting to first and advancing McCreery to 3rd. Mallory Stein struck out for the 2nd out of the inning but Ballard was not finished yet. Rolling with 2, Walker hits a gapper getting 2 bases and 2 RBI's. J. Wise hits into an error that lands her on 2nd and scores Walker. M. Wise comes to the plate and yanked one hard and out of the park for a 2 run homer. The Clean up batter followed suit and smashed one out to souvenirville for a one run dinger. Wiseman followed with a hit getting on 1st and Kelly hit into a fielders choice to end the inning. This inning was a very impressive showing by the Batting Bruins rallying with 2 outs.

The rest of the game was uneventful for the most part. Ballard held the Lakers scoreless and advanced to the finals with a score of 10-0 in a 5 inning mercy performance.

Championship

The Championship game was one to remember. These two teams played their hearts out and left it all on the field.

Ballard'sBailey Walker lead off the game with a hard hit single but was thrown out at 2nd when Jordan Wise hit into a fielders choice. Wise takes a try at 2nd and is caught in the act by a precision throw from Allen County catcher Sandy Young. Madison Wise stepped up to the plate and is struck out to end the at bat.

Allen County advanced a quick runner to the basepaths when Catie Yates took ball four and walked her way to 1st. 2nd on the roster Allison Pedigo reached via error and became the 2nd runner on. 3rd up Taylor Borders hit a shot through the gap in between left and center fields for a 2 RBI single to cap the scoring for the Lady Patriots from Scottsville.

An uneventful 2nd inning ensued as Ballard recorded 3 outs with 4 batters and the Lady Patriots go 3up-3down.

Ballard remained scoreless in the 3rd getting only 4 batters to the plate and left Jessica Adell stranded on 3rd. An intentional walk of Borders put runners on 1st and 2nd for Allen Co. and Amanda Wood hit a burner to center field that scored Pedigo. The third inning ended with the score at 3-0.

Three batters up and three down for Ballard to start the 4th inning. With 2 on Brittany Rippy took a walk to load the bases for the Patriots and get them back to the top of their lineup. Lead off lefty Catie Yates hit a grounder to 2nd and the force is made at home to give them bases loaded and 2 out. Pedigo flew out to center field bailing Ballard out of a huge jam.

Ballard showed up in the 5th when they cashed in on a fielding error by the shortstop and score their 1st run of the game. With 2 out and runners on 1st and 2nd Jordan Wise punches one through the infield to score Adell for their 2nd run.

Ballard played this one down to the wire but were a little out matched by the Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriots. Patriots win 3-2 and are crowned KHSSA Kentucky State Womens Fast Pitch Champions. Allen County never lost a game in the tournament and played excellent throughout their entire season. Coach Rick Roberts and his staff have done a great job on and off the field and it shows when you watch this team play. Congratulations Lady Patriots from all of us here at softballtimesonline.com
