    Robert “Red” Moore
    Verona, Kentucky
    Manager
    June 5, 2010

At age thirteen while playing B League Knothole baseball Red was asked to try out to be a Cincinnati Reds ball boy. He did and went on from there to become involved in softball in a myriad of ways – highlighted by his ability to play the game, organize players, leagues and umpires among other things. In 1971 he was asked to manage a team at L&N

Railroad and he progressed from being a player/manager to just a manger as the enjoyment he had for putting together competitive teams overcame his desire to play. To date he has been managing teams for most of the past forty seasons, taking off only to take care of family members who suffered health problems. In the last seven seasons alone Red’s teams have finished in the top ten in sixteen national or world tournaments, highlighted by three Runners- Up finishes, twice in 2004 and once in 2007. Through sheer force of will and determination, he has managed to bring to his 35 & over and 40 & over teams some of the very best veteran players of the game. In 2008, Red was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame and the NSA National Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Softball Hall of Fame this year. Red espouses all of the very best qualities of an individual who loves the game, gives 100% of himself to his co-sponsors, coaches & players and manages to compete while still making it possible for all of his team to have fun playing the game. We are proud and privileged to be able to induct Robert “Red” Moore into the Kentucky Softball Hall of Fame.

  • Top KY Softball Teams All Time

Best Softball Teams in Kentucky All Time

    1. Starpath Systems…Monticello…1987 ASA Major National Champs and 1988 ASA Super Champions. Two Louisville natives were the respective MVP's Gary Jones 1987 and David Johnson '88. Starpath was Runners up in three other prominent World Series including the highest classes from the NSA and ASA in 1989 and 1991. Hank Bassett was the brains behind KY's number one and he recruited the best ever softball infield which included Rodney Woods at 3rd base, Greg Whitlock SS, baseball Gold Glover Doug Flynn 2nd Base and Shelbyville native Scott Jones a former SS at first base. Add pitcher-of the-decade Dave Elder and it's easy to see why Starpath became the best team ever in Kentucky.

    2. Riverside Paving…Louisville…Three time ASA Major National Champions 1991, 1994, and 1995. Their biggest star was perhaps their coach and head recruiter Mike Glasscock. Glasscock parlayed his Riverside success to become skipper of Team TPS one of a handful of National All star Teams that dominated softball in the upper 90's and early 2000's. The Late Mike Glasscock was supported by many superstars from Riverside including two time ASA MVP Dennis Pierce plus all stars Mike Jackson and Eddie McCauley plus a cast of others too numerous to name. One other mainstay was sponsor Carroll Schwartz whose name was synonymous for Riverside's success over a twenty year span. (Read More)
